Donald Trump Presidential Library in Miami: Florida Approves Site Near Freedom Tower

Florida officials have approved a Donald Trump Presidential Library next to Miami’s historic Freedom Tower. The project will transform a 2.6-acre parking lot into Florida’s first presidential library. It may also include a hotel, creating a new cultural and tourism destination.
State Leaders Approve Land Transfer
Governor Ron DeSantis and other state leaders voted unanimously to transfer the property. The Internal Improvement Trust Fund board made the decision during a public meeting. The parcel sits at 500–540 Biscayne Boulevard in downtown Miami.
Last week, the Miami Dade College Board of Trustees voted to give the land to the state. This move cleared the way for the governor and cabinet to approve the transfer. Miami Dade College purchased the site in 2004 for $25 million. However, two previous development plans failed. The lot now serves as parking for college employees.
Freedom Tower: A Miami Landmark
Miami Dade College also owns the adjacent Freedom Tower, one of the city’s most iconic landmarks. Built in 1925, the 17-story Spanish Renaissance Revival building once served Cuban refugees in the 1960s and 1970s. In recent years, the tower underwent a $25 million renovation and reopened as a cultural center.
Because of its rich history, the location adds cultural weight to the proposed library. In addition, the area has become a hub for museums and historic sites, boosting Miami’s tourism economy.
Support From DeSantis and the Trump Family
Governor DeSantis called the project a cultural and economic win for Florida. “Having the Trump Presidential Library in Miami will be good for Florida, for the city, and for Miami Dade College,” he said.
Former President Donald Trump, who resides at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, would have his legacy celebrated in Miami. Eric Trump, co-leader of the Trump Organization and part of the Donald J. Trump Presidential Library Foundation, said the foundation is committed to building the library.
“It will be the greatest Presidential Library ever built, honoring the greatest President our Nation has ever known,” Eric Trump wrote on X. “This will be one of the most beautiful buildings ever built, an icon on the Miami skyline.”
A Boost for Downtown Miami
If completed, the Donald Trump Presidential Library in Miami would become a landmark attraction. It could draw visitors, create jobs, and strengthen the city’s status as a cultural hub. Moreover, its proximity to Freedom Tower connects the new project to Miami’s rich history.
