Doral City Council Approves Trump Organization’s Plan for 1,500 Luxury Condos

The Doral City Council has approved a proposal from the Trump Organization to build up to 1,500 luxury condominiums on the Trump National Doral Miami property. The rezoning was approved by a 3-2 vote during a council meeting on Wednesday, with Mayor Christi Fraga and Councilman Rafael Pineyro opposing the move.

The Trump Organization sought a zoning change for 56.4 acres of land at 4400 Northwest 87th Avenue in Doral to facilitate the project’s development. The project will be located on the southeast portion of the property, which currently houses parking lots and is separate from the golf course and resort portion of the more than 600-acre property.

The proposed project will include 1,498 residential units and approximately 142,000 square feet of commercial space, with plans for retail and high-end dining options. This number of condos is a reduction from the over 2,200 initially proposed by the developer in 2022. The property, which includes the famous Blue Monster golf course, was purchased by Donald Trump in 2012 for $150 million, with $250 million later spent on renovations.

According to Trump’s attorney, Felix Lasarte, the project would be built in five phases, with about 300 luxury condos constructed in each phase. Trump-branded units would start at over $2 million, with a small number of three- or four-story townhouses planned along the golf course, likely to be even pricier. Sales are expected to launch next summer.

During the meeting, Lasarte presented the project, noting that the condos are expected to be used by owners only about 20 percent of the time, which he believes will minimize the impact on local traffic. The Trump Organization has previously licensed its name to developers in South Florida, including the Trump Grande and Trump Towers in Sunny Isles. However, this will be the firm’s first direct development of branded residences in the region.
