Grand Hyatt Miami Beach Breaks Ground on Major Convention Hotel
May 22, 2025On May 16, 2025, construction officially began on the Grand Hyatt Miami Beach, a major new hotel project years in the making. Located at 17th Street and Convention Center Drive, the 17-story hotel will feature 800 rooms, including 52 suites with views of Miami Beach. The $600 million project supports Miami Beach’s growing role as a destination for large-scale meetings, conventions, and events.
The hotel will offer 90,000 square feet of indoor meeting space and 10,000 square feet of outdoor event areas. A climate-controlled skybridge will link it directly to the Miami Beach Convention Center, making it easier for visitors to move between venues. The development includes five dining outlets, a resort-style pool deck, a fitness center, a Grand Hyatt club lounge, and 320 parking spaces.
The Grand Hyatt, with just under one million square feet, is a significant investment in the city’s future. Miami-Dade County contributed $75 million to the project, recognizing its potential to strengthen the local economy. Last year, Miami-Dade welcomed over 28 million visitors and generated over $31 billion from tourism. The new hotel is expected to help attract larger conventions and global events that previously passed on Miami Beach due to limited connected lodging options.
Designed by architect Bernardo Fort-Brescia of Arquitectonica, the building emphasizes walkability and urban integration. It will feature landscaped promenades, improved transit access, and sustainable elements such as stormwater management, solar power, and flood mitigation. Its location also puts guests within walking distance of cultural landmarks like Lincoln Road, the Bass Museum, the Miami City Ballet, and SoundScape Park.
The Grand Hyatt Miami Beach is more than just a hotel—it represents a major step forward in the city’s efforts to become a top-tier destination for business and leisure travel.
