Soul food connoisseur and celebrity chef Lawrence Page, the star of the reality TV show “Hustle & Soul,” inked a lease to bring his New York-based soul food concept, Pink Tea Cup, to Miami Beach’s Washington Avenue.
The lease, which grants Page 5,500 square feet at 1542 Washington Avenue, marks the second location for his restaurant, according to what Fortune International Realty’s Wolfgang Herz and Ricardo Du Pond told the press.
The Pink Tea Cup, known for soul food dishes like chicken & waffles and catfish & ribs, is expected to open in late December or early January.
1542 Washington LLC, led by Ronald Firman of Miami and Martin Burns of Las Vegas, paid $5.25 million for the property in 2014 before recently rebuilding the two-story restaurant, which also has a 3,000 square-foot exterior courtyard.
Lawrence Page is just one of the many chefs and business owners investing in Washington Avenue now that the city’s approval of new measures designed to increase hotel, retail and dining space opportunities on the street, which had fallen behind Lincoln Road and Ocean Drive, has shown promise.
Other projects include Moxy South Beach, a seven-story, 202-room boutique hotel to replace some of the dilapidated storefronts at 915- 947 Washington Avenue; a micro hotel at 601-685 Washington Avenue; and a mixed-use project that brings a hotel, retail components and parking garage to 900 Washington Avenue.
