Jeff Bezos Expands Exclusive Miami Property Portfolio with $90 Million Purchase

April 5, 2024

Jeff Bezos, the billionaire Amazon founder, continues to broaden his real estate footprint in Miami as part of his relocation from Seattle. His most recent acquisition, a $90 million purchase of a third residence on Indian Creek Island, underscores his commitment to the exclusive enclave, as reported by Bloomberg. Indian Creek, dubbed the “Billionaire Bunker,” is nestled in Biscayne Bay and boasts a population of fewer than 100 residents, including prominent figures like Ivanka Trump and Tom Brady. Accessible solely via a gated bridge, the island flaunts its own mayor and police force, further heightening its aura of exclusivity.

Bezos plans to take up residence in the newly acquired six-bedroom home while simultaneously demolishing two other properties he owns on the island. His initial foray into Indian Creek began with a $68 million waterfront mansion in August, followed by the Purchase of a seven-bedroom estate for $79 million a few months later.

In a significant move, Bezos announced his decision to relocate to Miami in November. He cited his desire to be closer to his parents and the operations of his aerospace venture, Blue Origin, at Cape Canaveral. The favorable tax landscape of Florida, particularly its lack of a capital-gains tax, likely played a role in his decision, providing readers with valuable insights into his personal and business decisions.

Business Insider reports that Bezos owned eight properties in Seattle, collectively valued at up to $190 million based on Zillow estimates. Ranked as the world’s second-richest individual by the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Bezos possesses an extensive real estate portfolio that includes assets such as two adjacent mansions in Beverly Hills, a ranch in Texas, and a $500 million superyacht named Koru.

Bezos has a strategic approach to real estate, as evidenced by his past acquisitions. This is a strategy he previously employed at his former residence in the Hunts Point enclave near Seattle. These additional properties serve various purposes, including housing for security personnel and staff, showcasing his astute business acumen.
