Next stop: Miami International Airport receives more non-stop flights from around the globe

Miami International Airport is home to a total of 104 carriers – the most at any U.S. airport, and is already capable of accommodating the world’s largest jet planes as well as the influx of passengers in the tens of millions that would follow.  According to the airport, many foreign carriers are in the process of fleet revitalization and fleet expansion looking for opportunities to grow in new service points, especially if market conditions warrant launching a new route. This has led to an increase in inaugural service to Miami which has long been a popular destination for wealthy international tourist and foreign investors. In recent year many airlines have announced new direct service to Miami from cities like Dubai, Dublin, Amsterdam, and Israel. Miami International Airport has been the gateway to the Americas, and the bulk of traffic from Central and South America are serviced directly through Miami. Fort Lauderdale and Miami are reported to be two of America’s most exciting destinations for leisure and business travel.

The list below details new service routes to and/or from South Florida from major international cities across the Globe.

Planned Air Service to Miami and Fort Lauderdale

• Scandinavian Airlines is to begin non-stop Miami-Copenhagen and Miami-Oslo service out of MIA beginning in September. Miami will be the airline’s only destination in the southeastern US.
• Dubai based Emirates Air announced in October that it plans to begin daily service from Fort Lauderdale, Miami  and West Palm Beach in December, making Florida its 11th destination in the US.
• KLM Royal Dutch Airlines announced that it will begin three weekly flights from MIA to Amsterdam beginning Oct. 30.
• Israel’s El Al Airlines is eyeing Miami Following an investment in a top-of-the-line jet airliner and bump in passenger numbers. “Discussions with El Al Airlines are ongoing and there has been growth in the Israel-Miami market,” said Suzy Trutie, Miami-Dade Aviation Department spokeswoman.
• Aer Lingus, the national airline of Ireland, has announced that its first ever service to Miami will begin in September 2017.  Dublin marks MIA’s fourth international route launch.
• Mexican carrier Volaris Airline will launch service on Feb. 1, with four weekly flights to Guadalajara and daily flights to Mexico City.
• The airline Pawa Dominicana on Wednesday announced a new Miami-Santo Domingo air route starting Nov. 16, its first passenger service to the U.S.
• Transatlantic airline WOW air will launch thrice-weekly service to Reykjavík, Iceland.
• Italian airline Meridiana Air will begin two weekly flights to Milan.
• Taiwan Airlines could prove to be the Asian hub to Miami and the country has begun to emerge as a promising central location for flights from Asia to South Florida, after putting together an Asia task force specifically to strengthen the link between Asian businesses and Miami via international service.
